"Yankees win! Theeeeeee Yankees win!"

If anything has become synonymous with the Yankees' run of success over recent years, it is John Sterling's memorable conclusion to so many Yankee victories. And as the radio voice to 162 games a year, plus pre-season and post-season, he has called more than 2400 games over the last 16 seasons, without missing a one, making him one of the most recognized—and imitated voices—in all of New York sports.

Sterling has also broadcast Morgan State Football (8 years), and did Washington Bullets basketball in 1981. In addition to his seven years at WMCA and a year at WSB in Atlanta, he has also hosted talk shows on WFAN, and WABC in New York. He has not missed a broadcast since the fall of '81.

I saw this, and wanted to also throw a shout out to an HBCU alum in NYC doing his thang . . .

http://web.sny.tv/announcers/mets_onair.jsp#custer

As a student, Brian did play by play for Hampton's football and basketball games.  In addition to being the face of the NY Jets, he has won an emmy for his work with MLB in their tour of Africa.  It was good stuff.

Anyway, if you have Dish Network, or happen to be in NY and see SportsNet NY, know that he is one of our own.

bp40, how dare you muck up a perfectly good thread about the voice of the new york yankees with a lousy mets announcer.  i don't care what school he went to.  you need to delete your post immediately.  you have violated the terms of agreement.

You're right, I see that.  The t.v. channel is the station for the Mets also, but his coverage is with the Jets.

I did not know he did Morgan State football. learn something new everyday.

I despise the Yankees with every fiber of my being but  outside of Vince Scully doing Dodger games Yankee broadcast on the radio are the most enjoyable. The prime reson I got XM way back when.
