Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm’s hand-picked chief investigator today tendered his resignation.
Thomas Y. Trawick Jr., 47-year-old former Savannah State University police chief, will leave Oct. 31 to accept a post of chief of police and director of emergency management at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta.
He called his new position “a replication of what I left (at Savannah State).’’
Chisolm brought Trawick with him from Savannah State when he formed his justice team in February 2009, shortly after taking office.
In that role, Trawick oversaw a staff of 12 investigators in preparing cases for prosecution.
Chisolm reduced Trawick’s role in an Aug. re-organization that placed the chief investigator under Diane McLeod when she was appointed interim chief assistant for administration.
Trawick is the latest defection of leadership-level personnel since the resignation of Assistant District Attorney Greg McConnell in April.
Trawick’s departure marks the fourth of the original seven-member leadership team to leave.
