One thing missing from this discussion is that FAMU has a very large concentration of National Merit Scholars.Dr. Humpheries was very aggressive in doing this. I'm sure Dr. Ammons has continued this practice.

I don't think that FAMU today has the amount of National Merit Scholars as it once had when Humpheries was there.

As I stated in a previous thread, I see at least one, if not two of the GA public HBCU's hitting the 10K mark within the next five years.  All three of them have a lot of positive things going on, and are doing a much better job of marketing themselves.

That would be great if one of Georgia's public HBCU could attract 10,000 students. I think to do that they will have to offer some more masters degree programs and offer a few PhD programs.

Did UAPB ever get their PhD degree program approved?

Don't have any updates on the lawsuit filed against the state of GA regarding HBCU funding, but I think when the dust settles there will be professional schools at each of the 3 at the very least...pharmacy, vet school, maybe a law school...

If not there will be some Ph D programs offered...why we don't have any is a mystery, but then again it isn't.

Frat Dr. Humpheries developed a recruitment program that had FAMU ranked in the top three for YEARS, right there along with Howard and Harvard in bringing NMS students. For a couple years in the 90's we were #1 and consistently alternated with Harv and How in the various slots.

Well, when gainous was appointed president, he STOPPED the program and when cast-hell started her reign of terror, she eliminated it along with the rest of our recruitment programs for both new students AND new graduates.

Dr. Ammons has spent the last two years TRYING to re-establish our NMS program, but with State budget cuts it is only a shadow of what it used to be.  Angry

That's not what I'm saying. But, when I am saying is let's really take a look at the facts. That facts are what they are. It's not personal it's just true data.

This is EXACTLY what you posted:

Y'all DO realize Nova is trying to SLAM My school right? Roll Eyes

He's tried this mess before.

His "it's the ONLY public HBCU in one of the largest black population States but it only has X number of students" crap is wearing thin.  tiptoe

There's no trying to slam the university. I'm the one that posted the article without any comments. I only commented when I reviews some of the responses. Sometimes people you need to keep things in focus and stop being so hung up on "my college is better than yours". I look at universities as a whole. This is why I always post on all universities including predominantly white ones. I even show information so that all of us can compare and review to make better quality statements.

But, some of you refuse to review and compare thus you're stuck on just "college pride".

Like I said, this crap is getting old man. Roll Eyes

He went to 'skegee..

I think NOVA = Northern VA

I am of the belief that you can't just look at raw data and make a conclusion...you have to get behind the numbers to find out why they are the way they are...My Boss's Boss does that and it pisses me off, but that is another thread altogether...

Members of my family have attended colleges and universities in this country since 1936.  Our first family member graduated from Shaw University, next Livingstone College and Howard University and , Fayetteville State, in the 40's.  Fayetteville was a state school and a change.  Then came the 50's and NCCU, NCA&T, Fayetteville State, 70's UNC Greensboro, East Carolina, NCCU, NCA&T, Howard, UNC Charlotte.    You see the diminishing attendance at PVT Schools when in the 30's it was unthinkable to send your daughters and sons to schools with regular folk.   lmao  This may sound strange to many but it was the prevailing thoughts when a college education was for the very few.  It was Hampton, Howard , Shaw, St Augustine, JCSmith, Livingstone, Morehouse, Spellman, Taledega, Tougaloo, Miles, Dillard,Xavier, Virginia Union would have been the choice of the day and the State schools second.  After the GI bill and WW2 things changed.  I*ts great the FAMU through Ammons directions have move on forward in its enrollment.  East Carolina did the same thing in the late 70's and early 80's  which invariably increased funding to that institution.   Ammons knows that FAMU has to compete with all the growth colleges in Florida for students and funds in a growth southern state.  Ammons knows the time of day and keeps his head close to the ground for coming changes.  Go  FAMU.    GO!

The universities I've seen with aggresive growth plans are FAMU, NC A&T and NCCU. All 3 of these have plans to reach 15,000 in a serious way.
