FAMU is one of the better HBCU's at instilling school pride in its alumns.

Isn't that kind of easy to do when the campus is the only public HBCU in the entire state for its entire history?

That's kind of like saying just imagine if Alabama A&M and Alabama State were one university or if Morgan State, U of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Bowie State and Coppin State were one campus. I'd think school school pride would rival FAMU.

Like South Carolina State Univesity has a lot of school pride like FAMU. When you see that large football stadium they have when they only have just around 4,000 students. They are the only public HBCU in the state. That kind of adds to that pride.

Both Southern and Grambling are two other schools that share a relatively small state where the alumni of both have a lot of school pride.  School pride has nothing to do with how many schools are located within a given state, it's all about the school.

I think FAMU also gets quite a few out-of-state students as well.
I know they go in droves down there from the ATL as well as other cities.

The question was asked and the answer was given.

Florida A&M University
Florida Resident (In-State) 85.4%
Non-Florida Resident (Out-of- State) 14.6%

North Carolina A&T State University
North Carolina Resident (In-State) 81.7%
Non-North Carolina Resident (Out-of- State) 18.3%

***pickin up rock and throwin it at Nova***

OKAY, FINE THEN... I WAS WRONG, DAMMMIT!     lol

That's true and FAMU to be the largest public HBCU should be wealthier than Howard and Spelman.

You have to be kidding......It sure does aid in the amount of alumni and fans that follow the university. Are you kidding? If Florida had at least the same amount of public HBCUs as North Carolina don't you think that their would not be one university that dominates the state in terms of spirit and pride?

There's no trying to slam the university. I'm the one that posted the article without any comments. I only commented when I reviews some of the responses. Sometimes people you need to keep things in focus and stop being so hung up on "my college is better than yours". I look at universities as a whole. This is why I always post on all universities including predominantly white ones. I even show information so that all of us can compare and review to make better quality statements.

But, some of you refuse to review and compare thus you're stuck on just "college pride".

Good stuff, FAMU.   clap  Whatever you guys are doing in Tallahassee, all of us may need to take a look and model.  There is no reason why it is the year 2010 and our (HBCUs) largest institution is only 13K.  We all need to be increasing our enrollments dramatically...especially these public HBCUs.

The state of GA probably has one of the largest number of Black residents but the HBCUs in the state have small enrollments.  We all need to get on the good foot like FAMU and attract more students.  No excuses.  It can be done.   clap

That has been discussed Ad Nauseum too...

The 3 GA HBCU's have #'s comparable to Tennessee's 1 public HBCU and Florida's 1 HBCU, AL's 2 and MS 3... and all 3 are located at least 100 miles away from Atlanta, which has the highest concentration of AA's in the state...combine that with the underfunding of 3 said institutions well shrug

Can we do better? Of course, we all can but we've been doing a good job considering...

As I stated in a previous thread, I see at least one, if not two of the GA public HBCU's hitting the 10K mark within the next five years.  All three of them have a lot of positive things going on, and are doing a much better job of marketing themselves.

Well, get your alumni to grow their endowment to be larger than Spelman. Don't get mad at me for pointing that fact out. Look how little Spelman is. Where's the money behind FAMU?

One thing missing from this discussion is that FAMU has a very large concentration of National Merit Scholars.Dr. Humpheries was very aggressive in doing this. I'm sure Dr. Ammons has continued this practice.
