Woo Woo: A legacy of love
(1/1)
EPJr:
ETTRICK - Dr. Paulette Johnson is a rare breed of coach.
She has no true rival. And no true peer.
What she does have - without having to ask - is respect and a legion of former Virginia State University cheerleaders (Woo Woos) who remain loyal.
Johnson has earned every ounce of those positive feelings. Feelings not just from within the Virginia State community, but from the NCAA Division II ranks as well.
During her tenure, she helped guide the Woo Woos to the top of the CIAA - and the nation. Few schools have a cheerleading program that can challenge Virginia State.
Thanks to Johnson, who is stepping down after coaching the Woo Woos since 1974.
Expect an outpouring of love over the weekend as Virginia State celebrates the career of Johnson, including a meet-and-greet session Friday and a banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn in Colonial Heights on Saturday night.

LULions:
Dr. Johnson, Good luck and thank you so much for what you have done for HBCU football and basketball fans who have the privilege to observe the results of your hard work and legacy!
In the words of Jeffrey Osborne, Can you Woo Woo Woo? ;D
PharoahNupe94:
 Thanks Dr. Johnson
This is probably the only thing that I had missed being in the CIAA and that was the Woo..Woo
They have lost their swagger quite a bit.
Man, Back in the 90's :o Gosh........the Woo....Woo was the real deal
Cheer Phi 93:
  I agree PharoahNupe....before I started to cheer for WSSU, I remember marching in the band my freshman year at WSSU. My first glimpse at VSU WOO WOOs, I was like daggggg all those girl can cheer...Then they had the Men of Troy (male cheerleaders)......The entire woo woo squad all had Honey Blonde hair/ Asymmestrical cuts....Beautiful.....and then they could cheer!
Currently, to me they have lost that "ummmmfffff" factor. Don't get me wrong they still "Woo" the crowds.....BUT it is not like the "ummmmffff" that I remember seeing back in my day.....
Nevertheless, Dr. Johnson has been a trailblazer to VSU cheering program. She will be surely missed as a Coach....If Dr. Johnson is anything like the WSSU program, I am sure someone who cheered for her will step up to the plate and replace her as opposed to someone outside of their program!
Big ups to Dr. Johnson
