EAGLEMANIA SOARING IN THE MEAC BABY!!!!

« on: August 06, 2010, 06:21:25 AM »

I wanted to start a new topic of this because the previous discussion
was located in the NCCU/WSSU forum, and I felt that no one would go
back and read it.  I was reading the post, and I was shocked that a lot of people do not know the fight song.  The song and words are posted on NCCU's athletic multimedia section.

These are the words:
NCCU FIGHT SONG

We are the mighty Eagles

Our Majesty will soar high

There's victory for you and me

When we show our Eagle Pride.

Fight! Fight!

Our mighty campus we have here

Our spirits will reign free

For we are the mighty Eagles

Dear ole NCC!!!!

The other question that was raised, how can the words be given to the fans? I think two ways:  the programs that are sold each and every week during game day, or by displaying the words on the new scoreboard.  If the song is not played enough, then the alums should be able to approach the director and tell him that we as alumni would love to hear the Fight Song  in addition to "I'm So Glad" be played more to promote more school spirit during the games.  I am sure he will cooperate.  There's nothing wrong with the fight song, what you will hear is the fight song played slower. Most fight songs are played faster, displaying your spirit!!  The key thing is, once the words are provided, how many of the grand alums are actually going to stand up, clap their hands, and sing the spirit song?  It should be encouraged!!!! If we are winning, it needs to be played and sung, as well as losing!! If we are losing, that should be the inspiration and motivation for the team needs to get back in the game!!!  So, we as alums should collectively  network with the director and express the concerns of the eagle population.   Listen to the link below!!!

Great idea!

I know the fight song wasn't played or taught to us when I was in school.  The band always preferred their version of 'neck' to the fight song.  Even now, they only play the fight song after the first score; when they should play it after every score. nod

Our schools don't take pride in their spirit songs.  Playing the fight song should be in the pre-game show, after every touchdown and the first song after the game followed by the alma mater.  We can tell them to play it more, but I doubt if it changes things.

For Lots of Reasons, "Fighting Eagles" never caught On with Eagle Fans, (current 46 years and older) after the Band Stopped Playing the Old "I'm So Glad", back in the early 1990's. Plus, many of the current NCCU student population still believe the song to be "Tired" for some reason. Plus, the 25 to 45 age Eagle Fans do not same to help the cause very much, by not standing, clapping and singing along with the song, with any enthusiasm and EAGLE PRIDE AMPLIFIED!!!

Come to think of it, someone asked me yesterday, who wrote "Fighting Eagles", what year and under which Band Director at NCCU? That information should be known as part of our very proud NCCU History.

EAGLEMANIA2K: Do you know or are you in contact with someone who may know?

I do agree that the words to the NCCU "Eagles" Official Fight Song should be printed in and on everything possible, so "Eagle Fans" can finally learn and sing all of the words.

But, when in doubt, everyone LOVES, Responds to and Respects the two NCCU Spirit RIFFs and For The Black Folks

Take care!

I love you guys fight song especially the "fight fight" part. lol nod

I can say we play im so glad till people are sick of hearing it (not me of course  Grin) .  The band director tried to remix it and to stop playing it at all and people HAD A FIT! nod Its back now and played in some fashion after every touchdown. Im So Glad is not our fight song but it might as well be. nod

We also play our alma mater after every game, but just about everyone in the SIAC does that I believe. nod Favorite ones are ours (of course), Tuskegee, and Morehouse. nod

Love the riff, not a huge fan of for the black folks. . being chanted. . because the students often forget to add 'cause they like it loud'.

The 25-45 year old group never learned it because it was never taught to us.  I didn't know NCCU had an official fight song until after I got out of school; and joined this board.  I always assumed it was our version of 'Neck'.

But alas times change.  They don't even do the same chants that we used to do. . nod

A lot of our schools don't chant any more and that is sad. It builds unity and pride for your university/college. nod Everyone is too cool to act a fool anymore.  no

The fight song was initially written by a band student back under  the direction of Mr. Xavier Cason." It was revised, and was played under Ms Robyn Reaves.

As far as the student body goes, all incoming freshman should be taught the fight song. when I was a freshman, they taught us the alma mater along with the history of the university.

The words to the fight song should be posted on the cover or first page of the program or somewhere close to the front with the alma mater!!! In addition, to displaying it on the scoreboard!!!

Did you all play the recording? That clip  is a slower version, but it sounds better uptempo.  Talk to Mr. Reid, and tell him that we would like to hear the fight song played more, to pick up the morale of the fans!!! Maybe he will also write I'm So Glad, or Eagle Spirit.  A & T always played Aggie Spirit, and we followed up with I'm So Glad. When we played I'm So Glad, we played it, then we sung it, then we played it again to the end!!! That really got the fans into the game, and if we were losing, playing that song and singing it, put more pep into the football team, and we pulled out some nail biters back in the day!!!!  The football team got their nicknames as the Cardiac Kids!!!!

I've always heard that longtime band member and volunteer Terrell Smith wrote it.  I can't verify that though, and I don't have his number anymore to give him a call ... lmao

Now you know both of us have been asking for years, regarding an NCCU  "Re-Write" and Re adding the "I'm So Glad" Spirit song back into the "MSM" Songbook for years. So far, No Go.  lol

All of that should be taught to the freshmen as soon as the get on the yard. When I was at the House, we learn all of the school`s songs and chants the first night there. They made us all go to Sale Hall.A lot of the stuff we had to do,they don`t do anymore because it can be considered hazing. They cut out the AU mile and some other things. I gues the sight of 700 freshmen running through the AUC in their PJ`s was too much for some people LOL!
