You must have been reading my mind.  I was going to bring up HBHSs in a thread about state championships.

Are there any left in your state?  I did a research paper in the 10th grade during Black History Month on Black schools in North Carolina during segregation.  I found out there was at least 1 Black HS in every county of the state but there are only 4 remaining.  I would say 5 but Im not sure if Carver in Winston Salem is historically black.

Carver High in Winston Salem is named for Georgw Washington Carver.   There are now 6 orignially black high schools in NC.  Atkins High in Winston Salem re-opened a few years ago after being closed for nearly 30 years.

Dudley

Atkins

Carver

West Charlotte

E.E. Smith

Hillside.

I THOUGHT I'd heard Ligon was going to be a HS again.  I guess it's still a MS.

That would be interesting if the Little Blues of Ligon High School would become a high school again.

Before named A.H. Parker High School it was called Industrial High School. Also about how many Schools in America that is named after Dr. Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, Booker T. Washington, Paul Lawrence Dumber, George Washington Carver? Someone mentioned Wenonah as a Historical Black High School? I always thought that it was originally a white High School along with West End High School that is now demolished and merged with Wenonnah. Also let's not for get Ullman High School that you know now as the University Of Alabama at Birmingham(UAB).

G W Carver--Montgomery Al.
Booker T Washington Tuskegee Al.
Just a little updated . Prior to BTW  there was Tuskegee Institute High School "Baby Tigers"  which is now a middle school. Three high schools merged in the county(South Macon, D.C. Wolfe and Tuskegee Institue High) to form the now Booker T.Washington. All three were predominated black.
