One tier of required upgrades(athletic budget) have already been met in order to gain membership. Some of the remaining ones relate to coaching assignments etc.  Over time, meeting them should not be a problem. SSU had assurances that this was coming but the delay in getting around to this announcement is inexplicable.

I say the same thing.  After ten years and all the problems that Savannah State has had with it athletic programs, what do they bring to the table?

The question should be what does the MEAC benefit SSU? SSU is no different than any of the other schools in the MEAC. They have their financial issues just as some of the others. It's just that theirs have been brought to light in the media.

that's all... tiptoe

SSU brings a ton of baggage with them., specifically two recent terms on NCAA probation forsome of  their athletic programs. Although not likely, A third occurence could bring about the NCAA Death Penalty for particular sports. The MEAC may want to lend a hand with compliance issues.

I don't think this necessarily means there will be a championship game.

with SSU now being the closed conference school to SCSU, and neither one having a "natural" rival, I can see a great rivalry developing between the 2 programs.

Could be interesting......

Agree. MEAC just needs to implement 7 or 8 game mandate along with criteria to determine champion and/or playoff auto-representative.

Congrats to SSU - look forward to road trip.

Don't forget secret GOP strategy meetings sponsored by Koch bros: attendees included Congressmen, Governors, CEOs, National Chamber of Congress, and two Supreme Court Judges; all united to put GOP back in power. Could SC Judges be bought? smh

Where is my good friends Conquero and SSUTigerFan they must be grinning from ear to ear about this great news. And Coach Bill Davis is in Heaven smiling down on his Orange and Blue Tigers from Savannah St. And now Shannon Sharpe can feel at ease knowing that his Alma Mater has become a Div.I HBCU. nod
