With that height differential that WSSU has now, they should rule the CIAA if everybody stays.  nod

If the WSSU Rams remain intact, I could see them being the pre-season favorites, but as everyone knows, you gotta bring your "A" game everynight in the CI.  Nobody is going to lay down for anyone.

The big question is how many players with D1 aspirations will stay at the now D2 school when they can transfer to another D1 school?

Not necessarily.   Other CIAA schools have had real tall teams and they did not dominiate the CIAA.

It seems silly that  kids on this team would even consider transferring.   shrug They are already in college, working toward a degree. Basically if they are at WSSU playing, it means that they in it for the love of the game and for the education. Being in the CIAA would be a  bonus if the team does well. They will get a chance to play on the national stage where their friends and family back home can see them.

But did they have D1 caliber of personnel that WSSU has as of right now?

One thing that you have to keep in mind that at the D II level we will have a reduced number of scholarships to offer.  In addition, sponsors are not as willing to assist a D II program as a D I.   Some of those athletes may have D I aspirations, making some of our rival schools like A&T and NCCU more appealing.
Plus, truth be told we don't really have our stuff together right now.  Starting with the viper of a chancellor that we have.
So I do not want them to leave but if they do, God bless them. shrug

One of our greatest teams in history didn't have a starter over 6'5".  I'm talking 70s, not the 50s.

We can only hope they see it that way.  Our team was decent this year.  Even the Maryland game wasn't as bad as the score.  Doesn't mean we'll be a favorite in the CI, but we should be in the mix.

Look at some of those tall players at Bowie State, ECSU, and VUU in the past.  Those players were Div I caliber but could not into a Div I school.

How do you know for sure, that most of the players who signed on for Division I Basketball at WSSU, will stay at WSSU, after the end of this Semester?

Just asking?

Take care!

Do you think there is much difference in the mind of a kid when he/she is deciding to attend a DI HBCU or a DII? Personally if I were at that point I would select a D2 school just so I could have the opportunity to play and win championships. I would not attend a DI HBCU based solely on sports, period! In 20 years I will want to be ale to say that I was on the team that won the conference and went to the playoffs. I will take Virginia Union's national championships over the play in game of the Ncaa Tourney.

Beleive it or not, some kids like to play against major competition. I suspect if there is a D-I school that wants these kids then WSSU will lose their best players.
