DID YOU KNOW? On May 23, 1998, Elisha Marshall became the first female to win a national championship in North Carolina Central University history when she won the women's 100-meter dash at the 1998 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Edwardsville, Illinois.

A six-time All-American, the senior from Fayetteville, N.C. native finished the race in 11.81 seconds to earn recognition as the top women's 100m sprinter in the NCAA Division II.

"It was a perfect ending to my senior year," Marshall said moments after making history. "First graduation, and now a national championship."

Marshall was inducted into the NCCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.

Since Marshall's feat, two other Lady Eagles have earned the top prize in collegiate head-to-head national competition.

On March 9, 2002, Katerina Glosova won the women's 800m run at the 2002 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. The senior from the Czech Republic posted a winning time of 2:08.73.

On May 26, 2006, Jessica Mills won the women's triple jump at the 2006 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Emporia, Kan. The freshman Thorofare, N.J. native recorded the ninth-longest triple jump in NCAA Division II Championship history with a leap of 42-feet, 6.75 inches (12.97m), becoming the first Lady Eagle to claim the nation's top honor in a field event.
