Perhaps a criteria IN ADDITION TO or IN LIEU OF the 3.5 is an essay about "Giving Back To Your Alma Mater or How I Will Give Back To My Alma Mater".

The panel ought to be 1 or 2 reps from the 4 conferences and an independent. That way you have a panel of 5 or 10. When the nominations come in from the MEAC types then someone OTHER THAN the MEAC panel members can review them.

Ya dig?

Also, Chances are that some folks with a 3.5 already have academic scholarships.

Just a thought.

Great idea. Earlier this year on BDV.com we raised $4,000 to pay for the summer school tuition of one of the Aggie basketball players.

The first thing I think we need to do is have a fundraiser to donate for the operation of this message board.

I think local fund raisers would be nice for areas were there are a group of members.  As stated I will give out the pocket too but a fish fry always raises money in the DC area.

I think that would be an excellent idea. It would probably be a good thing if we had them write a paper or essay similar to what another poster said. The title could be something along the lines of "How HBCUs Can Maintain Their Heritage in Today's Changing Times". I'm down for 5-10 dollars a month. Every little bit helps... bow bow bow

since we are here because of our love for hbcu sports why not make the scholarship for those athletes who have used up their eligibility and are within a year of graduating.

Love the idea and would support.  I nominate B4L, Capler, Decks, GK, and y04185 for the selection committee.

What do we do next?  If it matters, I already have a 501 c(3) organization in place with a very similar mission.

As soon as we get off the road, we'll follow up on the suggestions made.
