THANK-YOU THANK-YOU THANK-YOU ! clap

I also was one of those that gave up on this forum. I got discouraged because you really could not discuss or debate any issues - everything was turning into name-calling and smacking session.

If there's going to be civil atmosphere in this political forum, then count me also. I, for one, like hearing what others think and understanding how they process information to come to conclusions.

Maybe people need a "SMACK forum" to get it out their system. You don't want that stuff backing up in there.  no

highlander,

Since you are just asking, I will just be answering.

First off, as Twin said, neither of us was here on Onnidan at that time.  [EDIT: Re-reading I am not sure Twin was saying he was not here - he just said that he wasn't sure what was said.]

However, there is another factor and I don't know if you can relate, which we mentioned and which is important to many.  If you'd like to explore it further, then you can begin another thread- maybe in the General Discussion forum - about why Black folks are so "sensitive" about such things:

Quote
It is our hope that – especially given the abuse and disrespect that Black people suffered throughout society, which included others refusing to address us as Mr., Mrs. or another title we had earned, even in the courts – civility and respect will be given more breathing space on this Forum.

I bolded that part to emphasize that Black folks had to GO TO COURT to require attorneys questioning us IN COURT as witnesses (or referring to us as complainants or defendants) to refer to us with simple decency and human respect.  If I recall correctly, the argument was that the obvious and apparent lack of respect was prejudicial to the consideration of the testimony of Black witnesses.

Does that help?

Finally, as far as I know there was nothing stopping you or anyone else from proposing during Bush's presidency what Twin and I have proposed now.  But if you had, someone might well have asked you how come it wasn't done, on this board or another, when Clinton was in office.  Would you have a response for that?

 Afro
Bison....I can appreciate your answer but if I would have made the same request for Bush there would have been plenty of posters who would have said he didn't deserve respect in spite of being president. There would have been a clear distinction made between the office and the man. There is a very evident bias on this board in favor of Obama and rightly so.....it is as it should be but don't expect everyone to buy into this kumbuya moment. I respest the office of the president but that doesn't mean I have give Obama a pass on everything........in my opinion he hasn't done one thing on his own valition that has been positive for this country....not one. GO VIKINGS!!!

UCH stop beating around the Bush.  You are implying that the posters here are bias, hypocritical, maybe even racist your favorite word, toward Pres. Bush but we want ya'll to give Pres. Obama a pass because he's black.  Is that what you are saying?  Are you biased toward President Obama?  Your answer alone indicates as much because you have already made a conclusion about the man before he has really had time to do anything.  I could certainly say the same thing about Pres. Bush and he was in office for eight years.  I am certain now that you are one of the folks hoping he fails and thus the nation will fail.  I guess you are unpatriotic because that's what you would have said about me had I said what you said about Pres. Bush.  By the way if you have so much respect for the Presidency why are you not showing respect to the POTUS.  I have yet to see you write Pres. Obama anywhere. Roll Eyes
I have always called him Obama or president.....would you prefer " o holy one" ? Please note that I referred to Bush in the same manner. Now who brought the word race into this discussion? It wasn't me but for some reason you keep accusing me of bringing it up? Why is that? I hope his POLOCIES fail....when will you understand that? By the way...I'm sure you were saying very polite things aout Bush when he was in office weren't you?

As far as making the suggestion on behalf of other presidents....my answer probably would have echoed what you basically said....go ahead...no ones stopping you. My question still stands though....if everyone respects the office so much how come this wasn't proposed for Bush? GO VIKINGS!!!

No UCH, you don't have to call him "O holy one" that title was taken by the president he replaced.  You are correct you have consistently shown disrespect to those who have held and hold the office of president.  However, there are posts where you have used titles with some elected officials.  Is it that hard for you to put those two words (President & Obama) together or is that your passive aggressive way to show disrespect.

I brought up race because you were beating around the bush inferring things about liberal posters and you have used it in numerous posts.  I have mentioned it on several occasions, but if you now have selective amnesia I can go back and cite them.  The comments you make lead me to feel that your disdain for Pres. Obama is deeper than any policy issue, though you may legitimately think that it is.

If you can find a post where I disrespected Pres. Bush I will stop posting in the political forum.  Unlike Oldsport I will keep my word.  I am a soldier and I respect the office and show the person in the office respect even if I don't personally respect the person in it. Now are you willing to take that same challenge, that if you said something disrespectful about Pres. Obama you would stop posting?

UCH when someone is as bias in their thoughts as you are I have a hard time giving credence to what they say.  Maybe if some of your comments were more open minded people would be able to see your point of view.  However, you are so partisan, IMO, that most of your posts seem irrational and lacking of thought.  IMO they are mostly opinionated ramblings and don't seem based on fact.

I also feel you constantly imply that posters on this board are unsophisticated because they don't agree with your position, which by the way you don't express too well.  Please don't think because we attended an HBCU that we are incapable of rational thinking and debating you on any topic.

You keep asking why this request was not made during Pres. Bush's time in office.  The answer is simple, you didn't make it.  It is however, being made now and what I gather from you comment is that you refuse to be respectful to the President and therefore you used republican play number two, the the smokescreen  "Bring up what they didn't do for Pres. Bush.

Note: Play number one is the distraction technique.  Bring up something to change the subject, i.e.  Rev Wright, birth certificate, racism, etc.

What I find very interesting is when I ask a question .... the answer back is usually in the form of a question. Or someone tries to read some kind of evil into it. I stated on this forum before...I take things at face value. I try not to read things into statements or questions. I think that my statments and comments are pretty logical. I don't think you have to go into longwinded speeches to get a point across. A few posters seem to think the more they say....the smarter they sound. I actually respect all the posters on this board.....go back and find any names I have called anyone. How you come up with the idea that I think posters on the this board are unsophisticated is beyond me.

Sure...you answered my question in a round about way but you really didn't did you? GO VIKINGS!!!

Count me in.  We can be disagree with each other without being disagreeable.  It was this same type of uncivilness and name calling by one of the same suspects that frequent this board that got the political board on MEAC Fans shut down.

Let's not waste time rehashing the past, i.e, trying to explain how we got here. Let's just commit to doing better from now on.  bow

If necessary when answering a question, it may be good idea to highlight your answer or do something to make it clear to readers.

Mad,

WOW. clap clap clap clap

I haven't been on the site for a second, and I am COMPLETELY aboard.  I completely agree with Twin and Bison...While I believe that we should all be entitled to our opinions, political and personal...and that we should all have the right to freedom of speech...and the right to disagree and debate..fter the "Bastard" post, I understand that lines can and are crossed-and to attack one anothers person whenwe do not agree is outlandish.  It deters healthy discussion and those who really want to stick with the issues from posting. As a political forum we should keep on the topic and not on our opinions of the personal lives of or such blatant disrespect to the person of our political figures.
I applaud you guys for taking a stand.

Enough is enough.

Twin Que ASU and Bison66 have joined together – across the aisle, so to speak - to ask all Posters on Onnidan Politics Forum to ignore any and all threads where the TITLE of the thread disrespects the President of the United States by calling him out of his name, or using nicknames for him.

Great !!!!!!

This is where we will part ways. What you consider disrespect.....I don't. I won't change my mind on that.

1.  You may not go into longwinded speeches but maybe you need to .  Your short ones though succint do not always come across as clear.

2. You may be using your statement as a passive aggression way to tell me that I think the more I say the smarter I sound.  Hell I am smart, haven't you figured that out by now.  Grin That's why I don't buy into you BS. If that is what you meant at least have balls enough to say so.  Was that too long for you?

3.  Of course you think what you say is logical because that's your position.  A crazy man thinks he's sane.

4.  I  answered your question as best I knew how but since it wasn't what you wanted to hear I didn't answer it.  Go figure.  shrug
